Allen Zhang —— My Growth Story at NCC Medical
I was born in a small village in northern China. In the past, transportation was inconvenient and medical resources were scarce. The nearest hospital was located far away in a town. In our village, there was a family that had practiced medicine for generations, and every day many people would come to their home for treatment.
When I was a child, the first medical device I came to know was the thermometer. Whenever the doctor read the thermometer and said, “Your temperature is normal now,” people’s worried expressions would immediately turn into relieved smiles. Back then, I felt that such a small thermometer could carry so much power, and I developed a deep respect and curiosity for medical equipment.
In 2023, I was fortunate to join Shanghai NCC Medical Co., Ltd., beginning an inseparable connection with medical devices. Founded in 1997, the company has developed various products, including electroencephalography, electromyography, and Intraoperative Neural Monitoring (IONM) devices.
As a technical support engineer in the Overseas Business Department, I am responsible for helping clients troubleshoot issues and training them to use the equipment through remote assistance and video meetings. This requires me to have a thorough understanding of all products.
My learning started by preparing business and technical documents—product brochures, manuals, and medical reference materials—which I organized and studied repeatedly, moving from the basics to more advanced concepts. The company offers abundant resources and training videos through the NCC Academy, helping me quickly grasp the applications of each device. The equipment in the NCC exhibition hall provided valuable hands-on experience, allowing me to combine theory with practice and answer clients’ questions even while learning. There are also many experienced technical experts and product managers whose guidance has continuously helped me improve.
Over the past two years, my work has gradually earned recognition from overseas clients, and I have gained a strong sense of accomplishment. To respond to clients promptly, I keep simplified manuals and demonstration videos stored on my phone for easy sharing. Every day after work, I take my laptop home so that I can provide remote support immediately if any urgent situation arises. Each morning, I arrive at the office early to reply to any messages I missed during the night. Whenever I receive a client’s reply saying, “It is working, thank you,” I feel the same warm satisfaction I felt as a child seeing people examined by a thermometer.
I still remember returning home for the New Year holiday in 2025. I received a call from a client in India. They said their Cynapse IONM system could not connect to the computer, and surgery was scheduled to begin in 30 minutes. I immediately opened my laptop and conducted a remote inspection. I discovered that the USB driver had not been installed properly. After reinstalling and testing it, everything was back to normal. I also helped the client confirm the parameters and functions of the surgical templates. The client was very happy, and the intraoperative monitoring proceeded smoothly. At that moment, I deeply understood what it means to safeguard lives.
Shanghai NCC Medical Co., Ltd. continues to innovate and forge ahead, striving to become a globally leading provider of electrophysiological services. I will also keep improving myself, pursuing professional, efficient, and precise technical support, serving clients around the world, and contributing to the field of neural electrophysiology.
